S2E7 - Race Report Porch Edition: Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach
We got two new ride announcements and a teaser for a third this week! J.R. Hildebrand is with Dryer and Reinbold Racing (with Sage Karem) and Salesforce is his primary sponsor. On Thursday that put us at thirty-four cars. James Davison announced on Friday, that he will be the third Foyt car (which we talked about last week) with Byrd Racing and Bellardi, which is a Lights team. Now we’re at thirty-five cars. The, during qualifications on Saturday, IndyCar Radio interviewed Juan Piedrahita who said he has all the money, he just needs an engine to get into the 500. So we may have thirty-six cars.
We wanted to give you the results from Bristol, but when we tapped Rain was leading. Rain in fact was so far ahead they postponed the race until Monday. Kyle Bush won, finally ending Bristol race for 2018. In Formula 1, Daniel Riccardo from Red Bull won the Chinese Grand Prix.
There was an IMSA race (among other things) during Long Beach weekend. Cadillac won the race, Penske first held the pole (JPM’s car) but they ended fifth with Castroneves’ car ending in sixth. Chip Ganassi had a good weekend for his GTM cars, his two Ford cars came in second and third in their class.

It was Alexander Rossi’s weekend! He led practice sessions, he grabbed the pole, and he ended up winning the race. Sebastian Bourdais held the show with his amazing pass on Scott and Leist (Bourdais had to give up a position, but he got it back within a lap). Also Bourdais was quite salty after the race with a list of people – Seb did not hold back.
How did we do with our picks? Not that great (thanks #TeamCanada / #TeamBFF ) but Molly got out with 2 points and Abby with none. Better luck for us in Barber!
Molly took some time to write up her review of the race, you can find it here.
